The role

Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! It takes a great deal of people from different backgrounds, with diverse skills and experience to serve our force area effectively, think you have what it takes to help us make a difference? This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Workforce Planning and Insights Department as a People Systems Supervisor.

As the People Systems Supervisor, you will oversee all activities associated with the people systems administration team. This includes developing and mentoring staff, managing workloads efficiently, and providing expert advice and guidance to both internal and external stakeholders. Your leadership will ensure the seamless operation of our people systems and the continuous growth and success of your team.

What you’ll do

  • Manage the people systems administrative team in your day-to-day duties, including work allocation, performance management, health and wellbeing, staff training and development, appraisals, attendance management, and handling first-level capability/disciplinary issues. You will also contribute to the recruitment and selection of new staff as needed.

  • Promote individual and team development through regular supervision and performance monitoring. Identify skills and knowledge gaps at both individual and team levels to ensure a deep understanding of people business processes and associated systems, supporting day-to-day management, forecasting, and succession planning.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration by developing allocated teams and encouraging interaction with colleagues across the Force. Ensure the people systems administration function evolves as an adaptable, agile, and forward-thinking unit.

  • Serve as the point of contact for any core people system-related queries or issues. Develop and maintain effective customer relationships with managers and staff within the organisation and externally to ensure processes meet force requirements.

  • Challenge internal partners when necessary, advising on incorrect information and determining how to record data on systems to accurately reflect the establishment and inform decision-making.
