Hours/Contract: 37 hours, Permanent


Please note that this role is based permanently in Warrington, and this will be your base location.  Appointment will only be confirmed upon successful completion of a mandatory 10-week course.

The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit is one of ten Regional Organised Crime Units (“ROCU”) in England and Wales who lead the regional response to tackling serious and organised crime whilst supporting local and national delivery. The ROCU network continues to expand and Home Office funding through police officer uplift and increased police staff capacity presents exciting opportunities to further enhance service delivery and positively impact on our partners and the public. The Home Office Serious and Organised Crime Strategy defines ROCU as leading the regional fight against Serious and Organised Crime and NEROCU have a critical role in leading, connecting and co-ordinating delivery across our region in all four P’s of the strategy; Pursue – prosecuting and disrupting people engaged in serious and organised criminality. Prevent – preventing people from engaging in serious and organised criminality. Protect – increasing protection against organised crime. Prepare – reducing the impact of serious and organised crime where it takes place. NEROCU comprises of specialist teams delivering across intelligence, operations, investigations, cyber, economic, technical and digital capabilities.

 The role

This is an exciting and unique role, where you will gain first-hand knowledge of Serious and Organised Crime, leading the intelligence collection against the highest priority offenders in the North East Region.


 


We are looking for someone who can build strong working relationships and work closely with internal and external partners including the NCA, in order to identify intelligence and collaborative opportunities.


 


You will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of gathering, developing and analysing sensitive intelligence from a wide range of sources to support the fight against serious and organised crime. You will demonstrate integrity and resilience when dealing with issues and investigations, confident in your ability to make decisions that will affect operational activity based on sound research and analysis.


 


The role is located within the NCA at Warrington and provides an exciting opportunity for applicants to work within an environment where NEROCU staff work alongside other regions and NCA colleagues, supporting the most sensitive Policing capabilities.


 


What you’ll do


 



  • You will ensure confidentiality and integrity are at the forefront of everything you do, ensuring quality, secure handling and dissemination of intelligence, sensitivity and duty of care.

  • You will identify risks and threats in order to manage the NPCC’s responsibility to preserve life as per Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR)

  • You will contribute to the acquisition and development of tactical and strategic intelligence relating to Serious and Organised Crime affecting the North East region, and the UK Policing landscape.

  • Develop, research and analyse tactical and strategic sensitive intelligence relating to serious and organised crime in support of the National Control Strategy, the NEROCU control strategy and other identified priorities in the fight to cut serious and organised crime.

  • Disseminate fast-paced live-time dynamic intelligence to assist operational teams on the ground in terms of officer safety, evidence gathering opportunities, and enforcement action.

What you’ll bring


 



  • You’ll understand the application of the IPA 2016 within law enforcement and the National Intelligence Model.

  •  Relevant NCA Training Programme (pass/fail course)

  • Able to prioritise and manage your own workload, making effective decisions and presenting these when required.

  • Critically assess sensitive intelligence with minimal supervision, using the National Decision Model to manage threat and risk accordingly.

  • Knowledge and competency of various IT based systems.

  • Ability to manage and assess intelligence that is derived from various sensitive sources.


 


You will be required to work a shift pattern which will include earlies, lates and weekends.

If your application is successful, we’ll ask you to complete a Management Vetting (MV)/ Security Clearance (SC) form with an additional NCA vetting process. You will also be required to undergo DV Vetting. Therefore you must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 5 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed.  A job offer will be dependent upon vetting clearance and medical information.


 


Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a Pre-Training Assessment and a 10-week training programme (elements of which are a pass or fail).


 


Terms of appointment


 


This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.


 


If you are successful in your application, you will have a six-month probation period with us where you will be unable to apply for any other post advertised internally or externally.
