The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit is one of ten Regional Organised Crime Units (“ROCU”) in England and Wales who lead the regional response to tackling serious and organised crime whilst supporting local and national delivery. The ROCU network continues to expand and Home Office funding through police officer uplift and increased police staff capacity presents exciting opportunities to further enhance service delivery and positively impact on our partners and the public. The Home Office Serious and Organised Crime Strategy defines ROCU as leading the regional fight against Serious and Organised Crime and NEROCU have a critical role in leading, connecting and co-ordinating delivery across our region in all four P’s of the strategy; Pursue – prosecuting and disrupting people engaged in serious and organised criminality. Prevent – preventing people from engaging in serious and organised criminality. Protect – increasing protection against organised crime. Prepare – reducing the impact of serious and organised crime where it takes place. NEROCU comprises of specialist teams delivering across intelligence, operations, investigations, cyber, economic, technical and digital capabilities.

What you’ll do
NEROCU are looking to recruit an analyst within the Research and analytical team to be responsible for the production of key research and analytical products across the region in the fight against Serious and Organise Crime.
- You will be part of a team of analysts and researchers producing analytical reports across strategic, tactical and operational areas.
- You will be required to provide and drive specialist analytical products and guidance to senior managers, officers and staff to aid decision making and support the regions control strategy areas.
- You will support all analytical functions within the ROCU, for operational areas there will be a requirement to produce evidential analytical products and attend Court when required.
The above duties and responsibilities give a broad outline of the function of the post. However, by necessity, these duties and responsibilities must be approached in a flexible manner to accommodate the changing needs and demands of the Research & Analytical function. The post-holder will be expected to adapt to changing circumstances and therefore the outline of duties may change from time to time. This is reflected in the grade of the post supplied by the vacancy holder for all roles.

What you’ll bring
- You will be able to conduct in-depth analysis
and research across a wide range of data sources, assessing information,
conduction analysis and making reasoned judgements to be presented in a range
of formats.
- Awareness and
application of analytic tools and techniques, with good knowledge of information
management, data integrity issues and the National Intelligence Model (NIM)
- Ability to analyse critically and
using appropriate analytical techniques and software to assess threat, harm and
risk
- Be able to provide
recommendations and identify intelligence gaps
- Be able to work as part of a team and with
stakeholders including partners, other agencies and forces.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and
written, able to promote new ideas and approaches to colleagues across the
organisation. The ability to negotiate and
influence with key stakeholders on analytical products to aid decision making
and prioritisation
- To offer guidance, support and
expertise to senior managers, officers and staff on analytical products
- You will have experience and be competent in
using IT software, including Microsoft Office and specialist programmes. - You
will need to have a full UK Driving License and be willing to travel throughout
the UK

Terms of appointment
This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
