How long does the recruitment process take?

Everyone at Northumbria Police, whether in uniform or not, holds a position of trust and responsibility. If you succeed in the interview process, we’ll offer you a conditional role subject to pre-employment checks that confirm your suitability to join the Force. Our vetting process can take longer than in other organisations, so we appreciate your patience.

To avoid delays, complete and return all required forms as soon as possible. While we don’t set a fixed timeframe for vetting, we work through files as quickly as we can.

Throughout your application journey, honesty is essential. Always share relevant information during both the application and vetting stages. We’ll ask questions, but we also encourage you to proactively disclose anything that might affect your eligibility or suitability for the role.
