Criminal Justice and Custody
Detention Officers form an integral part of our Force. They assist police and custody Sergeants in processing people who have been arrested and detained in a police custody suite. The custody assistant also has responsibilities relating to the care and welfare of the detained person. Criminal Justice plays a part in preparation of case files for court and fixed penalties.

NERSOU
The North East Regional Special Operations Unit (NERSOU) provides specialist support to tackle serious and organised crime throughout the North East of England. It offers covert assets and tactical advice, intelligence development functions, regional reactive, cyber and fraud teams and a gateway to partner agencies including the National Crime Agency and HMRC to assist forces in dismantling organised crime groups.

People Services
Inclusive of training, recruitment, HR and wellbeing, systems and analytics. Everything that relates to our people and bringing new people on board.
People Services is made up of a wide range of areas –
- People Support – This is your generalist human resources area and is made up of a People Support Lead, Managers and Advisers. The team also comprises of a Wellbeing Manager, Trauma Lead and Health and Safety Partner
- People Acquisition – All things onboarding and recruitment based, both internal and external. This team is made up of a People Acquisition Lead, Talent Acquisition Manager, Practitioners and Assistants as well as an Onboarding and Induction Practitioner and Positive Action Practitioners
- People Systems and Analytics – This team oversee the Force systems as well as reporting and analytical activity. The team is made up of a People Systems and Analytics Manager, Analysts, Coordinators and Administrators
- Talent Development – This team strive to develop the Force from within. Providing support internally relating to progression and development. The team is made up of a Talent Development Partner, Adviser and Assistants. This team also comprises of an Apprenticeship Manager and Coordinator who oversee all things apprenticeship related
- Diversity, Equality and Inclusion – Understanding the diversity and equality needs of our work force and ensuring it’s an inclusive place for all. This team is made up of a Diversity and Inclusion Lead and practitioner
- People Development – People Development Lead, Business Delivery Manager, Operational Training Manager and Trainers
- Design and Delivery – Design and Delivery Manager and Advisers
- OD and Culture – Organisational Design relating to policies, procedures and structure of Northumbria Police. The team is made up of an OD and Culture Manager and Practitioners
