How long does the vetting procedure take?
Each case is treated on its merits and therefore it depends on what information is found during the checks

We'll let you know when our next cohort of Special Constables will join TeamNP so you know when you might expect to join us when you apply.
Is there a fitness test for Special Constables?
Yes. The fitness test allows an assessment to be made of your endurance to ensure you are able to meet the demands of operational policing.
Can I choose where I’ll be based?
You can request to be based at s specific location, and we'll do our best to match your preference.
How much time do I need to commit as a Special Constable?
You'll need to commit a minimum of 200 hours each year - that's around 4 hours per week. This includes both duty time and training.
What training will I receive?
Special Constable training follows a blended approach of classroom based training, pre-recorded sessions and live online sessions you can join from home.
Can I specify where I would like to transfer to?
We will do our best to accommodate your wishes for location preference as part of the recruitment process but this will depend on vacancies, your skill set and the Force’s current priority areas.
Can I apply if I am part time?
Yes, but, you will be required to make an application for flexible working which will be based upon the shift pattern where you will be based.
Can I apply if I am currently on a career break?
Yes, being on a career break does not prevent you from applying.
Can I apply if I am currently absent due to sickness?
It is therefore expected that you will be fit and currently fulfilling your current role at the time of applying.
