Our crime department look after a whole host of activities including homicide investigation, countering cyber-crime and fraud, gathering and developing intelligence and disrupting organised crime groups.
Detention Officers form an integral part of our Force. They assist police and custody Sergeants in processing people who have been arrested and detained in a police custody suite. The custody assistant also has responsibilities relating to the care and welfare of the detained person. Criminal Justice plays a part in preparation of case files for court and fixed penalties.
The ICT Department team offer front line support, delivery and support of telephony and police radio equipment, the installation, support and maintenance of 3rd party software systems and the analysis of the technology requirements.
Legal Services provides comprehensive legal advice to the Chief Constable, providing, as necessary, representation at Court for disciplinary hearings, employment tribunals, major enquiries, inquests and other hearings.
The North East Regional Special Operations Unit (NERSOU) provides specialist support to tackle serious and organised crime throughout the North East of England. It offers covert assets and tactical advice, intelligence development functions, regional reactive, cyber and fraud teams and a gateway to partner agencies including the National Crime Agency and HMRC to assist forces in dismantling organised crime groups.
