Northumbria Police are committed encouraging and supporting applications to become Police Officers from those groups of people currently underrepresented within this vital role.
Under Positive Action we are planning a programme of events to encourage eligible individuals who identify as BME, LGBT, female or disabled to consider applying to this challenging and rewarding opportunity.
Section 159 of the equality act 2010 applies specifically in a work context and allows employers to use positive action in recruitment and promotion as a proportionate means of enabling or encouraging people to overcome a disadvantage or to take part in an activity. This allows us to deliver a programme of additional support to individuals who share a protected characteristic. Protected characteristics include BME, LGBT, female and disability.
